The National Forum for Black Public Administrators (NFBPA) is the principal and most progressive organization dedicated to the advancement of black public leadership in local and state governments. NFBPA is an independent, nonpartisan, 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization founded in 1983. NFBPA has established a national reputation for designing and implementing quality leadership development initiatives of unparalleled success. The NFBPA Chicago Chapter was founded by the late Honorable Mayor Harold Washington.  Through his vision and leadership the chapter grew to become one of the premier member organizations to promote the advancement of African-American public administrators.  Over its history the chapter has proudly built an esteemed alumni such as former President Barack Obama, Senior Advisor to the president Valerie Jarrett, Secretary of State Jesse White, former State Senator Emil Jones, Cook County Presidents, John Stroger, Bobbie Steele and Toni Preckwinkle,  Cook County Commissioners, Stanley Moore, Bill Lowry, Dennis Deer, the late Robert Steele, Clerk of the Circuit Court Dorothy Brown, Alderman David Moore.

To serve as a catalyst for linking public and private organizations, as well as academic institutions to support the professional development of African-Americans choosing public service careers.

We prepare and groom leaders by mentoring, coaching and providing leadership development for African Americans choosing public service.

We employ multiple modes of communication and cutting-edge leadership principles to enhance knowledge and skills for professional advancement of its members.
